Functions and Short Term Accommodation
Guest information 
Sancta Sophia College business hours are Monday to Friday 9am–5pm.
The College has no lifts. Please advise if you require a ground-floor room when making your reservation
Accommodation rates include a light complementary breakfast of cereal, toast and fruit. Full board may also be requested however is subject to availability over the summer vacation period when the Dining Hall may be closed during December.
Map
Please review the map of Sancta Sophia College in order to understand how to enter and exit the College, by foot and vehicle. Please also refer to the ground floor map for check in area, dining hall and other relevant locations.
Check in week-ends and/or after hours:
- You must advise the College when making your booking if you will be arriving outside of business hours.
- During these times an R.A (Resident Attendant) can be contacted using the external phone located at the main college entrance.
- Follow the instructions located on the phones to call the R.A for access and check-in.
Check in during Business Hours (Mon-Fri 9am – 5pm):
- Please use the external phone located at the main College entrance to call a staff member for access and check-in.
- Check in from 2pm
- Arrivals prior to 2pm may leave baggage at the College until the room is ready.
Check out
- Check out by 10am
- Please leave your keys with the Principals Secretary whose office is located within the Foyer area to the left of the glass doors. If this office is unattended or for weekend check-outs please leave keys in the ‘Key Return Slot’ located in the door of this same office.
- Please note the maids will be scheduled to clean you room from 10am on the day of your check out.
- Should you check out late you will be charged for an additional nights stay.
Security and Access
Sancta Sophia College is located behind a large wall however the Pedestrian Entrance off Missenden Road is always open; please refer to the ground floor map for the location. The Vehicular Gates are locked, should you require access with a car or taxi please contact the Conference Coordinator for the access code.
The College has security doors at both entrances and offers a secure environment. The two entrances are:
1. The Main Entrance to the College (facing St John’s Oval and the University of Sydney). Check in here
2. The Student Entrance located at Missenden Road directly opposite the Pedestrian entrance.
These entry points also have the blue chip key insert panels for access. This blue chip is issued with your room key at the time of check-in and is to be used for access into the College at all times.
To use your blue chip simply insert it into the black entry panel point and wait for the red light to turn green, you then have 30 seconds to open the door. Please re-try again should it not work on the first occasion.
In-House and After-Hours Assistance
For after-hours assistance such as lock-outs or maintenance issues please call the duty resident by dialling 7777 on any College phone, or on the externals phone listed above. Please reserve these calls for emergency situations or issues that cannot wait to be addressed during business hours.
Laundry Facilities
The College provides coin-operated washing machines and dryers ($1 & $2coins) as well as irons and ironing boards. A private dry cleaner is located opposite the College.
The Octagon Recreational Lounge
All guests are welcome to use the Octagon Recreational Lounge area that hosts; tea and coffee making facilities, a snack and drink dispenser and two separate lounge areas for watching TV or Foxtel on large screens or relaxing with a book.
Internet use
All rooms have a port for computer connection and wireless hot-spots are located in some communal rooms for your use i.e. the Common Room, Council Room, Library and Dining Hall. A credit card is required to use the Cirrus service and options range between $5 and $30. LAN cables are required for in-room connection and are available for purchase during business hours only, or bring your own.

Sancta Sophia College engages the Service Provider ‘Cirrus’ and as such all questions, issues or problems must be directed to the Cirrus Support Line on 1300 552 698. For after hours queries call Cirrus on 0457 199 474.

An internet café is located at Shop 2, 216 King Street Newtown or call 9550 3390 for further information.
Telephone use
To make an external call from your room you must first place some credit onto your phone account. This can be done by paying the Bursar in the Business Office between Monday and Thursday 9am – 5pm. You nominate how much you wish to credit to your account. At this time the Bursar will issue you with a pin that is required to dial out.
To make an outgoing call simply lift the handset and dial:
* 72 * your issued pin number # 0 followed by the number you are calling
Calls between rooms within the College can be made from any phone and are not charged.
There is a public phone located at the BP Service Station Store located on the corner of Parramatta & Missenden Roads or opposite the RPA hospital, on Missenden Road.
Supermarket and ATM
A supermarket is located on Missenden Road directly opposite the Pedestrian Entrance. An ATM is located at the Alfred Hotel across the Road or at the 7-11 Convenience Store located beside the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Cafes and food outlets
Café Missi, Café Iro and a Thai restaurant are located directly opposite the College. A Nando’s store is located behind the BP Service Station on the corner of Parramatta & Missenden Roads. A McCafe is located beside the 7/11 opposite the RPA Hospital on Missenden Road and several cafes are located along Missenden Road. King Street Newtown, located at the top of Missenden Road, has a diverse and vast range of cafes, restaurants and shops to choose from.
Taxi Rank
A taxi rank is located on Missenden Road just prior to the McCafe opposite the RPA Hospital.
Sydney Buses
Bus stops with comprehensive time tables are located on the corner of Parramatta and Missenden outside the Service Station (westbound) and diagonally across the road (eastbound) to catch a bus to the City or Central Station. There are a large number of buses that travel this route with majority passing Central Station, Town Hall and the City’s CBD and terminating at Circular Quay. Between 7am and 7pm buses require a pre-pay pass that must be purchased prior to boarding. Pre-pay tickets can be purchased from any convenience store such as the BP Service Station. Smoking
Sancta Sophia College has a non-smoking policy for the College and grounds. The Lavender Garden has a receptacle for cigarette butts if required.
