Meet Rosie
What is your full name?
Rosie Lucinda Marisa Gale
Where are you from originally?
I moved around to various country towns when I was younger. My family were originally in Young, we then moved to Singleton for a couple of years followed by Quirindi. And finally we moved to Parkes in 1995.
Tell us a bit about where you are from.
Parkes wasn’t a very well known town, but after they made the movie ‘The Dish’ it put Parkes on the map. And in more recent years the annual Parkes Elvis Festival has also added to people knowing more about Parkes.
What are you studying?
Bachelor of Management in Tourism at UTS.
How did you come to live at Sancta?
My older sisters both went to college when they were at uni. My eldest sister went to Womens. And my other sister went to John XXIII at ANU in Canberra. I was envious of all the fun and friends they made whilst at uni. I applied to Sancta to come in second semester of 2008 and I wouldn’t look back at all. Living at Sancta has made my university years much more enjoyable.
What do you like most about living at Sancta?
Everything! The many friendships I’ve made. The sporting, cultural, liturgical and social events that are always happening whether participating or watching/supporting.
What are your plans when you complete your studies?
I would like to start as an event manager, most probably here in Australia to start with but my long-term goal is to work overseas. Either in the events industry or tourism, as the tourism industry has many sectors where I could get a lot of experience in various areas.
After working as a professional my long-term dream is to work for a Non-Government organisation like the one that I helped with in the Philippines over the last break and to help those who are forced to live in poverty whether it be here in Australia or overseas and to someday have my on organisation or company which can assist in this. To be honest I don’t really know where I want to be but all I know is that I want to help people who aren’t as lucky as I am.

What advice do you have for potential & new Sancta students?
Get involved in as much as you can even if you think you can’t play the sport, or sing. Get involved and do as much as you can but make sure you spend time to study!!!!
Please tell us about the photos you have included:
1. Ali Kriz, Leah Gorring and I at the Semi Formal
2. 3 out of 4 of the Gale Girls fishing on a family holiday in Narooma
What else would you like to tell us about yourself and your life at Sancta?
Sancta is a very ‘homely’ place to live. Because it is smaller than the other colleges you are able to get to know everyone. Share stories and laughter over meals. Enjoy cups of tea whilst watching television or in someone’s room. Go for runs around the uni or Glebe. Compete in sporting competitions, music, drama, debating and reflect on the week gone at mass on a Sunday night. Living at Sancta whilst studying has made my years at uni so enjoyable. It just adds a little something to my university life. There is so much support for everyone whether it be academic or for a shoulder to cry on or an ear to let out your stress and anger there is always someone around who is willing to help you in whatever way they can.
This year I am Sancta’s 2010 Liturgical Secretary. Having the opportunity to be on House Committee has enabled me to see another side of Sancta. The ‘decision-making’ side. Where the student’s have the ‘voice’ to make decisions and changes to the college. Working with other members of the house committee to see things happen and things get done the way that we want them to. Sitting on House Committee has enabled me to be more organised, the chance to make changes and additions to the Liturgical and Spiritual life of the college. Along with having a very enjoyable time and the opportunity to get to know people in the other year groups.
Sancta has been my home for the past 2 and a half years and I would not look back at all. I can only look forward. The friends I’ve made and the opportunities I’ve had have been extremely memorable. If I wasn’t at Sancta I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to attend the National Student Leadership Forum last year and then I wouldn’t have had the life-changing experience and chance to go to the Philippines for a week. The chance to be at Sancta is one that I will never forget and the friends I have made here are most probably going to be my friends forever.
