Meet Chris, Vet student
What is your full name?
Christopher Lam
Tell us a bit about where you are from originally.
I was born in Hong Kong, but I grew up both there and Toronto, Canada until I went to the U.S. for my undergraduate studies.
Tell us a bit about your current university studies?
I am currently studying Veterinary Science at Sydney Uni.
How did you come to live at Sancta?
I originally heard about Sancta from another Sancta post-graduate alumni whom I have known for many years back home in Hong Kong. She is also a veterinary student and highly recommended the quiet and pleasant living environment of Sancta, as well as the support system that is in place here.
What do you like most about living at Sancta?
The thing I like most about Sancta is the close-knit and welcoming environment for students from all kinds of background and cultures. Even as a male student living in a predominantly female College, I never felt out of place or isolated from the community. Instead it provided me with multiple opportunities to participate in College life and take pride in College spirits along with other Sancta students. Being an overseas student, and having a very busy uni schedule, it’s nice to know there’s a place I can call home to return to everyday, and a support system that I can share my ups and downs with.
What are your plans when you complete your studies?
Hopefully I will be practicing veterinary medicine either in Australia or overseas. But long term I would like to apply for an internship and specialize in a specific area.
What advice do you have for potential & new Sancta students?
It may be daunting at first to move away from home and into a new community, but Sancta’s community is one that is always friendly and welcoming. Don’t hesitate in reaching out to others because you will probably learn something new from the variety of backgrounds and cultures, and develop some lifelong friendships and connections here. If you want to try out new things or develop certain skills, Sancta has numerous opportunities and support to allow you to do so. Lastly, just enjoy every bit of it!
