News & EventsAppointment of new Vice-Principal at SanctaJurjen van Geenen received most of his education in The Netherlands, where he acquired a MSc(cum laude) and BSc in Computer Science from the Eindhoven University of Technology, and bachelor degrees in Music Theory(hons) and Violin from the Fontys Conservatory. Jurjen worked as a lecturer of Music Theory at said conservatory; in IT related roles at Deloitte, ING and Capgemini; and as a research scientist and patent engineer at Philips Electronics.After receiving a University of Sydney Postgraduate Award, Jurjen moved to Australia to work towards a PhD in the field of algorithmic music composition. Before becoming the vice principal, Jurjen was a member of the senior common room, academic tutor and resident assistant at the college. University of Cambridge scholarshipCongratulation to Ryan Cooke, post graduate and tutor at Sancta, who was recently offered a PhD place with a full scholarship at the University of Cambridge, commencing October 1st 2008. The full scholarship comprises an Overseas Research Studentship and the Allen Cambridge Scholarship which is jointly funded by the Cambridge Australia Trust and the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. Ryan has been offered a place at Trinity College, renowned for accommodating 31 Nobel Prize winners during their studies at the University of Cambridge and will be studying cosmology, which is the science of explaining the evolution of the building blocks of our Universe.Annual Academic Dinner Sancta was honoured to have Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, Chancellor of University of Sydney as guest of honour at the annual Academic Dinner. High Distinction students were acknowledged and awards were presented to those mentioned in the University of Sydney Honour Roll for 2007. In her speech Professor Bashir gave an insight to her very busy schedule combining her roles as Chancellor and Governor of NSW.
Dr Marie Leech will join Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's 2020 Summit in Canberra this April to debate and develop long-term options for the nation on strengthening communities, supporting families and social inclusion. |
