Grounds and gardens

The Sancta gardens are a peaceful haven in every season. It is hard to believe that this retreat is only a short distance from the bustling Parramatta Road. The sandstone College building dominates the central quadrangle. The College grounds are truly breathtaking!

The Sancta quadrangle

The College hosts occasional BBQs in the quadrangle. The area also serves as a central gathering point for social events and a pleasant spot to Common Areas - Grounds, Gardens, Common Rooms and Facilities relax.

Entrance

The main entry off the driveway leads to the foyer and front office where the friendly staff are available for students and visitors. The hall, with student photos dating from 1926, leads to the Common Room.

The Lower Common Room

Students regularly gather for meetings in the Lower Common Room. Drinks and coffee are served here on Formal Dinner evenings. Students may use the piano at
any time. There are several other pianos available for use
in the College.

The Octagon Common Room

A personable and casual common room with a kitchenette, television with Foxtel channels, Video, DVD player and pool table.

The Senior Common Room

Designated to postgraduates and visiting academics residing at the College.

The Sheldon Dining Hall

Students gather in the dining room for all meals. Formal dinners are served on Monday nights. Read more about

Library

The College Library looks onto the peaceful quadrangle. The Library is a pleasant and popular spot to stop and read the daily newspaper. The University of Sydney Libraries are a five minute walk from Sancta Sophia. It is worth noting, however, that Sancta students can readily
access the University’s online database from within
the college.

Information technology – PCs, Macs, printers and copiers

For students who do not have their own computers in their rooms, College computers are available. The College Information Technology Room is well equipped with the latest PC and Mac systems. There are two printers and one photocopier available for use.

Tutorial rooms

These rooms are used for private study and evening tutorials.

Music practice room

The College has a soundproofed music practice room with a piano for use by musical students.

Laundries

Coin operated washing machines and dryers are located on each floor.
