Dr Marie Leech’s Honorary Fellowship
Congratulations to Dr Marie Leech, former Principal of Sancta (2008-2017), for being recognised as an Honorary Fellow of the University of Sydney. This prestigious honour, conferred during a graduation ceremony in October 2024 at the University’s Great Hall, acknowledges Dr Leech’s “significant contributions to the interests and welfare of the University over three decades, and her contributions to social policy in Australia.”
Dr Leech’s career has been defined by her commitment to social justice and improving Australian social policy, holding impactful roles across many not-for-profit organisations, including Mission Australia. As Principal of Sancta, she guided a period of growth for the College, introducing new academic and career programs and overseeing the construction of our Graduate House.
Principal Fiona Hastings and alumnae Liz Hannan (Fr’ 1984), Josephine Heesh (Fr’ 1974), Rachel Launders (Fr’ 1986), and Clover Moore AO (Fr’ 1965) attended the ceremony to honour and celebrate Dr Leech’s achievements on behalf of Sancta and the wider university community.
