Sancta is proudly a Catholic college, shaped by the traditions of the Society of the Sacred Heart. While the Sisters no longer reside at the College, their influence continues in the values that define our community, including respect and dignity for all, academic curiosity, warmth of welcome, personal growth, wise freedom, friendship, community and the sense that Sancta is a home away from home. In practice, these values shape daily life at Sancta, with spirituality reflected in how students live alongside one another, engage with their studies, and make time for reflection within the week.
A community for all faiths
Sancta welcomes students of all faiths and none, with a commitment to supporting the spiritual and religious needs of the community wherever possible.
Students are encouraged to explore their own beliefs while engaging respectfully with the perspectives of others. This openness contributes to a community that is grounded, inclusive, and attentive to the experiences of those within it.
Chapel and reflection
The College Chapel is available for personal reflection, prayer, or quiet time. Students use the space in different ways, whether that is for individual practice or to pause during a busy week. Its presence within the Main (Heritage) Building provides a consistent and accessible place for reflection.
Mass and liturgy
Mass is celebrated in the College Chapel each Sunday evening during semester at 5:30pm, and all students are welcome to attend.
There are also three significant College liturgies each year, including Commencement, the Archbishop’s Mass, and Vale. These gatherings bring students, staff, Council members and alumni together at key points in the College year and form part of the shared experience of life at Sancta.
An undergraduate student is elected each year to the House Committee as Liturgical Secretary. They assist in coordinating the weekly Sunday Mass, key College liturgies, and other opportunities for spiritual engagement throughout the year. Students who are interested can also become involved in the Liturgical Committee, working alongside the Liturgical Secretary to contribute more actively to the spiritual life of the College.
