The building

Live at the heart of the College community

Most undergraduate residents live in Sancta’s Main Building, also known as Heritage Building, the historic heart of the College. First built in 1926 and expanded over the following four decades, it remains the centre of daily life at Sancta. The Dining Hall, Library, Quadrangle and many of the College’s historic and most loved shared spaces are all located here, giving the building a sense of warmth, continuity and sense of old-world academia that many students find becomes one of the most memorable parts of their time at College.

Heritage Building features include:

  • All-female undergraduate accommodation
  • 33 twin-share rooms, 108 single rooms, and five ensuite rooms
  • Modern shared bathrooms on every floor with private shower cubicles
  • Three large common rooms with lounges and television
  • A fully equipped communal kitchen
  • Air conditioning in the Octagon common room and communal kitchen
  • CCTV and secure fob entry
  • High-speed Wi-Fi internet
  • Library and study spaces
  • Dining hall and servery
  • Tranquil quadrangle garden
  • Self-service laundry
  • Music room
  • Tutorial rooms
  • Multifunction printer (print, scan, copy)

Although undergraduate accommodation is located within Heritage Building, a small number of residents live on the ground floor of Graduate House. All Sancta residents, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, enjoy full access to Graduate House, including its two common spaces, two communal kitchens, secure bicycle storage room and rooftop terrace.

Room options

A mix of room types within a shared residential setting

Undergraduate accommodation includes a mix of twin-share and single rooms, all within a shared residential setting supported by 12 modern shared bathrooms located throughout the building. Most first-year students begin in twin-share rooms, an experience that helps create early connections and makes the transition into College life more social and supported. A small number of ensuite rooms are also available, typically for students in their second or third year.

All rooms are fully furnished and designed to support both study and day-to-day living. Each room includes:

  • King single or double bed
  • Dedicated workspace with large study desk, chair and a drawer unit
  • Built-in wardrobe and storage
  • Ceiling fan and heater

No two rooms in the Heritage Building are exactly the same. Each has its own layout, proportions and outlook, creating a level of individuality that is rarely found in modern student residences. This is something generations of Sancta students have loved, with rooms often remembered for their character and personal feel.
