Sancta's Student Associations are an important part of College life. As all students are members of either the Undergraduate Students’ Association or the Postgraduate Senior Common Room, these groups are closely connected to the everyday experience of living at College.
Through their representative bodies, students contribute to the organisation of the College and help create opportunities for leadership, academic engagement, social connection, cultural participation, sport, social justice initiatives, liturgical life, and more. The Student Associations work alongside staff to support a strong sense of community and to provide students with opportunities to contribute ideas, organise events and activities and participate fully in College life.
What our Student Associations contribute to College life
Our Student Associations support many aspects of the student experience and facilitate a wide range of initiatives throughout the year. These include:
- Social events
- Academic initiatives
- Cultural activities and opportunities for creative expression
- Participation in the intercollegiate sport and art competitions
- Social justice initiatives and charitable activities
- Liturgical and faith-based opportunities
Undergraduate Students' Association
The Undergraduate Students’ Association exists to ensure that undergraduate residents are represented in the organisation of the College and to provide opportunities for leadership, academic, social, social justice, sport, liturgical and cultural activities.
All undergraduate residents of Sancta are members of the Undergraduate Students’ Association.
The House Committee leads the Undergraduate Students’ Association and is elected by the students themselves at the end of each academic year for the forthcoming year. Members of the House Committee hold specific portfolios and contribute to both general matters affecting undergraduate students and the organisation of student functions and events held at Sancta.
House Committee members play an important role in supporting participation in College life and encouraging students to contribute ideas and initiatives. All undergraduate students are encouraged to approach members of the House Committee regarding any areas requiring discussion and may request to attend a meeting to present ideas or concerns.
Postgraduate Senior Common Room
The Senior Common Room fosters academic discourse, encourages a strong sense of community and assists postgraduate residents to take full advantage of College life.
All postgraduate students are members of the Senior Common Room (SCR), which is the representative body for postgraduate students at Sancta. The SCR exists to ensure postgraduate students are represented in the organisation of the College and to provide opportunities for leadership, academic, social, social justice, sport and cultural activities.
Like the Undergraduate House Committee, committee members of the SCR are elected by their peers at the end of each academic year for the forthcoming year. They take on specific roles and contribute to both general matters affecting postgraduate students and the organisation of postgraduate events and initiatives held at Sancta.
SCR members support a postgraduate community that values academic focus alongside opportunities for connection and involvement in College life. All postgraduate students are encouraged to approach SCR members regarding any areas requiring discussion and may request to attend a meeting to present issues, ideas or concerns.
