Postgraduate Senior Common Room President 2026, Isaac Gill, welcomed Sancta’s newest students at our Commencement Dinner on Saturday 14 February 2026 with the following address.

Good evening, everyone. My name is Isaac and I am the Postgrad President for 2026. I want to give a huge welcome to those joining us for another year here at Sancta, and an even bigger welcome to those joining us for the first time.
Today marks your first official step in being a part of the Sancta community. But it isn’t just that. Tonight, be your first night staying at Sancta. It might be your first time living out of home. It might be your first time in Australia altogether. Today might be your first day in starting a degree for your future career and life.
And that is scary. Anyone that tells you differently is lying… that is scary. I remember when I first walked through those doors, my heart was pumping out of my chest with fear. I said to myself, ‘Isaac just suck it up and try’. And I walked over to that middle table, took a deep breath and asked a group of strangers whether I could join them. They pulled out a chair, sat me down and made me feel like we had been friends for ages.
I learnt two things in that moment;
- That belonging often starts with those little moments.
- That the best parts of college happen when you start to get involved.
There are so many great people, experiences and opportunities waiting for you to get involved.
My hope for all of you is that this year you find people that challenge you, that support you and that make this place feel like home. Say yes to the things that scare you a little, look out for each other, and remember that you are never doing this alone.
Folks, welcome to Sancta.
