From the 2019 Student Leaders

Over 2019, we continued to strive for the ‘education of the whole person’ ideal on which Sancta was founded.

Our Rawson and Palladian victories were made possible by our undivided, indestructible Sancta community spirit. Regardless of whether we were winning or losing, our crowd decked out in their red and white was one of the largest and loudest at every event.

Being part of a community that knows who we are, and who holds their heads high regardless of the outcome always makes me immensely proud to be a Sancta girl.

Being surrounded with the biggest and brightest minds over three years has taught me that no matter who you are or where you come from, you can be and do anything if you put your mind to it. Sancta has taught us all that no matter the circumstance, to be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when to ask for help and brave enough to ask for it.

Thank you for a remarkable year and for your many individual achievements. You are all destined for great things and I wish you every success in the future. Let us never forget the Sancta dream to ‘walk in wisdom’, to live a life of use to others and to lift each other up.

House Committee 2019

2019 for the Sancta Sophia Postgraduates has been a year of success – success in every aspect of college life – including sport, social, cultural and social justice. Where opportunities were available, the community answered the call and got involved.

It would be insincere for myself, or any one person, to be attributed with the success experienced this year. Rather, it has been a result of the combined efforts of both the Senior Common Room and the Postgraduate community at large.

I am proud of our communal determination to go above and beyond in 2019 and to continue to enrich the foundations of Sancta’s postgraduate community. We creatively spearheaded a series of unique social events throughout the year and championed the Sancta Postgraduate Sport motto – ‘show up, give it your all, try to win, sometimes win’. Each of our individual efforts in 2019 were reflective of a community that values getting involved and enjoying oneself, whilst also knowing when it is time to hit the books.

Reflecting on the year just passed, it is hard to see where anything could be improved, but I challenge Clara Jane and her team to build on this year’s success and to foster even greater levels of community and Sancta spirit.
