Guest speaker
Alumna and global FinTech leader, Loretta Joseph, on “Blockchain to Empower Humanity”
“Blockchain technology is about data. 2 billion humans do not have access to banking, because they do not have identification. Their mobility and agency does not exist. Blockchain presents an opportunity to give identification to billions of us who have been locked out.”
Loretta Joseph grew up in Lithgow NSW and attended Sancta whilst completing her Economics degree at The University of Sydney. Not only were Loretta’s Sancta years some of the best of her life, they were also the years when the inspiring female leaders around her, including then Principal Sister Mary Shanahan (Shan), instilled in her an unshakeable sense of ability and independence.
“Sister Shan really made us feel like we could do anything we wanted to do. She cemented my self-belief and made sure I studied hard. I wasn’t the best student and I was often in her office for the wrong reasons, but she embraced my quirks and kept me focussed on the end goal”.
Today, Loretta is the advisor and regulator for 27 governments and counting on blockchain, having written the technology’s first adopted legislation, with a focus on anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism. She works with world leaders, regulatory bodies, and sits on The Vatican’s Humanity 2.0 Papal Council to imagine and realise new solutions to poverty and all of its symptoms.
Master of Ceremonies
Joining the Gala Dinner and Alumni Awards as MC is Sancta Alumna (Fresher 1987), Simone Whetton
The charismatic Simone Whetton is a leader in the business, arts and cultural world of Sydney. Her vibrant journey post-Sancta currently sees her leading the corporate division at law firm Colin Biggers & Paisley and presenting on ABC Radio Sydney each week.
Simone presents ‘What’s On’ segments on the ABC’s Weekend Show, reviewing theatre, art, music and other cultural events in Sydney. She is also the Chair of physical theatre company Legs on the Wall, and a board member of Griffin Theatre Company and the German Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Simone has been known to surprise her audiences with anything from rap parodies to theatrical improv – we look forward to seeing the sillier side of the Sancta spirit come alive for this spectacular evening.
